Fun & frolics at ‘The Festival of Vintage’!

The Festival of Vintage is now one of the first dates marked in the vintage calendar for myself & my vintage partner in crime; Kitty Lou. And this year, we added another redhead into the mix by inviting along the lovely Sarah of Pin Up Curl who is the resident stylist at The Vintage Suitcase fairs. After an early start & a pit stop at Sarah’s to get my hair done (well, there has to be some perks to having an uber vintage stylist as a mate??) we hit the road & set off for York Racecourse.

We love this event not just because it’s an excuse to save lots of pennies & then spend frivolously in one day but because it also gives us the chance to catch up with old friends & finally put a face to the name of lots of lovely people we speak to via twitter. We’d spoken to the lovely lady behind ‘Respectfully Vintage’ via twitter at #vintagefamilyhour on Thursday so we set about finding her stall & introducing ourselves. She had a fab selection of homewares & Kitty had already snagged a wicker shopping basket from her after spying it on instagram the week before. Cheeky!

My next stop was ‘Wish Vintage’ where I swooped on a pyrex hostess set for the princely sum of £15! I can honestly say that their stall was my favourite, mainly because of the amazing use of colour blocking when they’d merchandised their stock. Having worked in retail, I find I get drawn into displays that have really had some thought put into them & I imagine the ‘Wish Vintage’ guys have spent many an evening devising their stall on their kitchen table & it definitely paid off!

We rounded off a day of shopping & chatting by watching Sarah enter the ‘Best Dressed’ competition & it didn’t come as a surprise when she won ‘Highly Commended’ as she was just inched out of first place by a chap who had done his 40’s research & was accessorized to the nines! The judges thought she deserved a mention as she had pulled the colours of her outfit together so well & she did look pretty fantastic! Well done once again Sarah!
